China and Asia more broadly have been at the heart of Manulife‘s global business ever since we sold our first policy Shanghai in 1897． Since then I‘m proud to say we have built a special relationship with the country and its people． Last year we celebrated Manulife-Sinochem’s 25-year anniversary as the first foreign joint venture life insurance company in China． In those 25 years we’ve extended our footprint into over fifty-two cities across China． And we’ve developed successful partnerships with local government， businesses and universities to make every day better．

In 2021 the Asia region contributed 39 percent of Manulife‘s total core earnings and in the next few years we expect that number to reach 50 percent． We’ve also gained market share in 5 markets in Asia， with China being one of them， despite the ongoing challenges from the pandemic．

All this to say： I‘m incredibly confident about the opportunity we have to help people live longer healthier lives in China． With the tenacity and hard work of our colleagues and agents， and the trust and supported of our great partners， we will reach new heights together in 2022．
